Trivia Question❓

What is the name of the roughly 5.5-kilometre race at Warrnambool's May Racing Carnival that is Australia's longest steeplechase?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

For families looking for something different to do in Warrnambool, brick shows are about to become a local option.

The newly formed South West Model Club plans to stage the city's first Brickshow at the Lighthouse Theatre on December 5 and 6, 2026.

Doors are scheduled to open from 9am to 4pm, giving visitors plenty of time to explore the displays.

The event will bring Lego exhibitions to Warrnambool, with Lego train models set to be a particular draw for young enthusiasts.

One expected exhibit is a large Lego version of the Big Boy locomotive, a build likely to stop train fans in their tracks.

Exhibitors are also expected to travel from interstate, adding another dimension to an event built by local hobbyists.

But the story behind the show is about more than the bricks on display.

Club member Marcus Johnstone says the group formed this year to create a welcoming, family-friendly space for people who share an interest in models.

That aim carries personal meaning for Johnstone, whose son has ADHD and finds the trains calming.

For parents of children with additional needs, the chance to connect through a shared hobby can matter as much as the spectacle itself.

That sense of belonging gives this new event a purpose beyond a weekend outing.

Visitors can expect to see creativity on a grand scale, but they may also find ideas for smaller projects to try at home.

Quote Of The Day

“The three great elemental sounds in nature are the sound of rain, the sound of wind in a primeval wood, and the sound of outer ocean on a beach.”

— Henry Beston

Lego exhibitions have a knack for crossing generations, giving children and adults something to examine, discuss and build on together.

In Warrnambool, the club's first show will test how strongly that shared enthusiasm translates into a community gathering.

It is an ambitious first outing for a group established only this year, particularly with interstate exhibitors expected to take part.

For now, the clearest attraction is simple: local families will not need to leave Warrnambool to enjoy a dedicated brick show.

Come December, those Lego train models could be the spark that brings a new generation into the hobby.
